Application to Major in Global Economics and Finance (GLEF) Program

 

Dear CUHK non-final-year undergraduate students,

If you wish to apply to change your Major Program to BSc in Global Economics and Finance (GLEF) in 26-27, please note that this ‘transfer-in’ application is on a competitive basis.

Academic requirements:
- Achieve good grades in at least 8 units from the following courses: DSME/DOTE1030 or ECON2011, DSME/DOTE1040 or ECON2021, ECON1101 or MATH1010/ 1510/ 1520, ECON1111.
- Other “equivalent” courses may be considered with discretion, such as FINA2310 for non-business students. But DSME/DOTE1031, DSME/DOTE1035, ECON1010 are not accepted as substitutes for DSME/DOTE1030 or ECON2011.
- Year 1 applicants are prioritized, other applicants will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Shortlisting threshold: Cumulative GPA 3.3 or above (up to 25-26 T1), on selective basis.

Admission requirements: Cumulative GPA 3.5 or above (up to 25-26 T2), and strong interview performance, on selective basis.

Application period: January 24 (10am, Saturday) – February 6 (5pm, Friday), 2026 (HKT) (to be confirmed). Late applications or those with incomplete documents or documents in wrong order will not be processed.

Application method: Submit online application form + submit supporting documents by email. Early submission is appreciated.

Interview date: During reading week (March 2-6, 2026) (to be confirmed). Shortlisted applicants must attend this interview. No exceptions (eg. Zoom interviews or any other forms of make-up interviews) will be granted.

Interview format: Face-to-face.

Interview notification: At least 2 working days before the interview. Only shortlisted applicants will be notified via phone call or email.

Result notification: Conditional offer will be issued to selected applicants by the end of May 2026 via email. These applicants are required to submit an updated copy of unofficial transcript after the 25-26 T2 result released in early June 2026, and submit the change of major application in CUSIS during the designated timeline set by RES. Late applications in CUSIS will not be accepted.

Online application: Submit the online application form via this link (available during the application period). An acknowledgement email will be sent to your CUHK email address after a while. Then, please forward the supporting documents WITH the email acknowledgement according to the below instructions. Early submission is appreciated.

Required supporting documents:
Submit BY EMAIL to glef@cuhk.edu.hk AFTER completing the online application. Make sure to enclose the following documents in specified order, in one PDF file. Any incomplete or documents in wrong order will not be processed.

  1. Email acknowledgement from the online application (sample here, please check your junk box also);
  2. A one-page curriculum vitae in English;
  3. A one-page application statement with less than 500 words in total in English;
  4. A copy of your CUHK unofficial transcript in PDF format, up to 25-26 T2. Highlights the above-mentioned courses. Please download an ‘unofficial copy’ in CUSIS (instructions here), screen shots will not be accepted.
  5. A copy of your public examination certificate(s);
  6. A copy of your high school completion certificate;
  7. Other academic qualification(s), in descending order;
  8. Misconduct or demerit record(s) (if applicable): Submit a one-page statement with less than 500 words in English, detailing the incident and any outcomes. Attach copies of formal letters from CUHK or relevant authority, in descending order.;
  9. If you’re currently Year 2 or above: a one-page realistic study plan from 25-26 summer session to graduation. The plan should include: course codes, course titles, relevant number of units, course categories.;
  10. Any other documents you deemed appropriate, in descending order.;
  11. A copy of your CUHK student ID card.
