Ken Wong – OCBC Wing Hang Bank

‘I worked in the Corporate Banking Division at the OCBC Wing Hang Bank during the last summer. I was working in the front office under the Relationship Managers. My major job duties are to write credit proposals for analyzing the clients’ business performance and evaluating their credit default risks. I had also engaged in conducting research for Green Banking Sector for identifying potential listed companies in Hong Kong and China market to be our future clients.

The internship opportunity is very rewarding for students who are interested in the banking sector, especially the front-office nature position. Not only we could experience different client-facing activities, but also numerous credit analysis work for the client companies. It provides a chance to strengthen the knowledge you have learnt in university, and further intensify your soft skills in communicating and maintaining relationship with clients.

As front office role, it acts as a first contact point between the clients and the bank, the communication skills become the most essential requirements. There are a lot of inter-departmental collaboration in our daily duties, such as cooperation between the Treasury Department, Remittance Department, and the Credit Management Department. Being approachable and nurturing excellent softs skills will certainly be useful for working in corporate banking.

GLEF program is certainly an elite program in CUHK, and it is also a well-designed that it equipped us with adequate technical and softs skills required in the banking industry.’
