“During the summer 2018, I completed my trading internship at HSBC GBM with flow credit trading team. I was lucky to work with some of the most experienced traders on the street, and leveraged my knowledge learned to support the team. 

Working in trading floor is a really fast-paced, yet exciting journey. I had a feeling of standing at the front line to watch the markets swing. Our colleagues have taken good care of me and viewed me as important part of the team. Throughout the internship, I managed to handle various projects, including company research, credit analysis and modelling to assist traders. Takeaways from such projects were huge which broadened my knowledge on market structure, corporate bonds, and financial analysis. Moreover, I had the opportunity to discuss views on markets and corresponding trading ideas with traders. Some of the ideas are proved profitable.

Apart from enhancing technical skills, I also realized that soft skills are equally important. The ability to work with different parties and communicate effective is essential to a successful trading career in investment banks. I was fortunate to receive training from HSBC, and got the chance to participate in various intern events, including lunch-and-learn, networking events and social services. Being able to talk with senior executives and learning from outstanding people are enlightening.
