“Over the past few months, I have completed an internship at Nest, a venture capital firm that operates corporate accelerator programmes, invests in seed to growth-stage startups, and runs an entrepreneurial community called Mettā. The internship has been a perfect alignment with my past exposures and my future career aspiration.
During the internship, I have been mainly assisting with the Corporate Innovation Programmes which are accelerator programmes that connect corporates with b2b startups. I have also extended my work duties with the venture team for startup sourcing and due diligence, as well as the marketing team for branding and promotion tasks. Although I was already exposed to the startup community prior to this internship, the few months has definitely widened my horizon to more investor connections and other ecosystem players. I have sharpened my research skills while acquiring new skills such as CSS, HTML and startup valuation.
On the other hand, soft skills such as being proactive, working independently and agile learning skills were instilled into me. I was well equipped for the internship from both GLEF and out-of-school experiences. Courses in the programme such as ACCT 1111, ECON 3121, FINA 3070 and GLEF 3010 were the cornerstones for me to comprehend the day-to-day operations, take up new challenges and to offer opinions with critical thinking at Nest.
Moreover, I have also taken self-initiatives to attend entrepreneurship events and to start my own FinTech startup company.”
