Tiffany Chau – Point72

“In the summer of 2019, I took part in a memorable and fruitful 10 weeks internship program in Point72, an asset management company.

I worked as an operation intern with a team of 4. The working pace in a hedge fund is extremely fast with varieties of tasks that need to be handled in a day. I worked along with my teammates, while I also shadowed another associate, who handled FX trades. I would receive more than a thousand emails a day and response to different internal and external parties like prime brokers and traders.

During my internship period, besides the daily routine work and ad-hoc tasks, I also carried out a project related to Corporate Actions. As I realized that there were different handling procedures in different markets and it was confusing to the team, I did a project related to the handling processes of Corporate Actions.

Apart from work, I enjoyed a variety of activities organized by the HR team and developed a strong bonding with interns from different departments. Training sessions with various department head were organized regularly. We had the opportunity to understand the work of other teams e.g. Risk, Asset Management and Trading. We even had a chance to listened to sharing from asset managers from Japan and Singapore. Apart from academic learning, I joint volunteering activities to go to Feeding Hong Kong for food distributions and a purse making session. These activities made my internship experience more fruitful and I had fun time spending with other interns.

The most fulfilling part as an operation intern is that when you are able to understand the full picture, you would be able to realize every step you take and every button you press makes a difference. Even as an intern, I played a role in contributing to the firm. This fruitful internship equips me with knowledge related to the financial market, friends that I can learn from and passion towards work.

The internship journey changed my working attitude. It turned me into a more proactive person with intellectual curiosity.

I am thankful that GLEF provides us with the resources conducive to securing the offer for Point72. Professors are supportive and they are willing to write us reference letters in order to help us secure a job offer. Holly is always here to answer us any enquiries on the program administrative arrangements and to encourage us. My friends in GLEF comforted and backed me whenever I encounter any difficulties in job hunting.

Without help from GLEF the program, I would not be able to get the offer from Point72 and enjoyed a fruitful journey.”
