‘I have spent my last summer in Ernst & Young (EY) as an assurance intern in the audit team. I was assigned to the Technology, Media, and Telecommunication (TMT) team under the core division, which audits companies that fall into the scope. I was fortunate to be part of the team which was responsible for an IPO project in HKEX. IPO projects are usually associated with higher workload and challenging tasks, yet it does provide me the valuable opportunity to go through the sophisticated process of listing in Hong Kong from the auditor’s perspective. I spent most of my working hours in the audit room in the client office with my supervisor, which allowed me to cooperate closely with the team and shadow their routine.
During the 8 weeks of internship, I encountered lots of coworkers with a diverse background. EY provided me with a vibrant working environment, in which I managed to interact with my supervisor, managers, partners, and other interns. This internship not only acquired me with solid knowledge in accounting and data analysis, but it also greatly broadened my horizon as part of the “Big Four” community.
I would like to show my greatest gratitude to the help from GLEF alongside my internship journey. Seeing myself in the past, I have never expected myself to be offered the opportunity to work for one of the giants in the financial world. While the GLEF programme has provided me with the necessary knowledge to excel in the interview and to handle my job duties, equally important is the comprehensive support from my professors, Program Manager, and Placement Director. The holistic assistance I received from GLEF along my academic and career journey meant a lot to me.’
