‘During my first semester in 2023/2024, I have performed a 6-months placement internship in MUFG Bank. It is a Japanese corporation providing different banking services to the public worldwide. It is an eye-opening experience for me as the scale of business and the job nature is different from my previous internship.
During my placement internship, I have been mainly assisting the Global Corporate Banking Department 2 with utilities and government service providers as their main client base. The main task I was on is to prepare the annual credit reviews. Later in the months, I have extended my assistance to the Marketing Support Department which handles more technical tasks regarding rollovers and drawdowns. Periodically, I would join clients’ meetings which were brand-new experiences to me. On top of the daily work, this internship exposed me to a fun side of working in this industry. I have played a part in three of the company's external events. I was able to mingle with leaders in different industries!
Undoubtedly, this placement internship sharpened my hard and soft skills. Research and analytical skills are trained while preparing for annual credit reviews. Business knowledge on different financial products and technical skills in utilizing financial tools are also taught. To me, I think the biggest takeaway is my interpersonal communication skills. From internally cooperating across different departments to externally pitching proposals and networking with clients, I learnt how to effectively communicate. Till now, I am still maintaining these connections and would do lunch gatherings with them regularly!
Here, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my internship colleagues and managers in providing much guidance and advice on my workplace and future career path. Besides, thanks should be given to the GLEF program which provides lots of academic and career support. Most importantly, encourage us to think and act in a global mindset, especially in this ever-changing business world!’
