Hazel Chan – Henderson

‘During the Summer, I joined Henderson Land Investment Limited, a subsidiary of Henderson Land Development Company Limited, as a Business Development Trainee in the Retail and Hotel Management Department. The company engages in the operations of the department stores: Citistore, APITA and UNY in Hong Kong adding the new brand GUU SAN to the list in September 2020. The company also manages HART Collective which is a not-for-profit arts organization.

Throughout my internship, I mainly assisted brands under Unicorn Stores through conducting market research and supported the establishment of a loyalty program. I was also given the opportunity to take charge of a store ambience enhancing and website development project. I extended my duties to the finance team at Henderson Land Development where I participated in profit and loss meetings and analyzed financial reports for restructuring of the brands. Through this internship, I have learnt that to build a long-term relationship with customers, thinking in their shoes is extremely important. I have also been able to utilize and sharpen the skills and knowledge learnt in school while experiencing a whole new industry and gaining expertise in other business areas.

Not only has GLEF prepared me through the knowledge gained from finance, accounting and management courses, which supported my day-to-day duties and contribution during meetings, the various opportunities to present, work in teams and be a leader have also equipped me with the ability to excel and take up new challenges during my internship.
Big thanks must be given to my supervisor and colleagues for their guidance during my internship and to the GLEF program for the preparation and support!’
