“Internship is one of the key components of GLEF program. We pride ourselves for putting emphasis on internship and practical knowledge that can get students ready for their career.
I worked in Commerzbank AG, the second largest bank in Germany, as a Debt Capital Market intern from June to December 2018. Debt Capital Market division is often less-known among university students; yet, it is one of the fastest growing team across investment banks in Hong Kong.
Through this internship, I have learned to combine the knowledge I have learned from school with the practical experiences in the financial industry. Frankly speaking, from an outsiders’ point of view, capital market sounds very complicated and have a lot of industry jargons that bankers need to memorize. Nevertheless, this is still a service business. Technical skills are indeed important for interview but once you enter into the office, interpersonal skills are much more important. Teamwork is the basis of all output. The most important skill in the office is to find a way to cooperate with colleagues. This internship experience has helped me land a decent graduation job in a major investment bank. I really cherish this experience.
GLEF is a very small program with roughly 30 students. I am really lucky to be in this family with a lot of supports from professors and staff since year 1.”
