“I completed a 10-week internship programme in the Digital Payment Team at Standard Chartered Bank in the summer of 2020. During the internship, I was widely exposed to various projects related to payment and transfer, including government’s Cash Payout Scheme and Faster Payment System (FPS). Outside of the tasks assigned by the Team, I also delivered an internship project on optimizing the Bank’s chatbot. 

Working in the dynamic environment in the Digital Banking department, I navigated how technologies will disrupt the world of banking and experienced hands-on how digital initiatives are conducted within a bank, which will prepare me for a future career in digital or FinTech.

This internship has served an excellent wrap-up to my university life. Not only has it consolidated the knowledge I have learnt in the classroom, it also instilled in me various soft skills such as being proactive and confident. Therefore, I would encourage all students to actively search for internships in their junior years to maximize their learning experience. 

Finally, I would like to show my gratitude to the GLEF programme for nurturing me and equipping me with the knowledge and mindset. The programme has definitely provided me with all the support I need to pursue the career I want.”
