‘Throughout the summer of 2021, I worked as an Apprentice Intern at Shopee (Sea Group), the leading e-commerce in Southeast Asia and Taiwan. The internship was a fruitful experience that aligns with my goals of understanding businesses and gaining data analysis skills.

During the internship, I have been assisting the Business Development team to increase the adoption of the firm’s affiliate program and produce a detailed competitor analysis. My work involved collaborating with relationship managers, processing raw data into understandable datasets, and transforming these datasets into credible, insightful statistics. Although I had been working in a number of firms previously, this internship has allowed me to understand the e-commerce industry from the operational perspective and see what it takes to build a growing, successful business in such a developing market. Due to the exposure, I also had to improve my Excel knowledge and presentation skills while being more collaborative at the same time.

My internship success should be attributed not only to my hard work but also to the school and the GLEF program. The mentorship programs, sharing sessions, and courses like DSME2011, MGNT2511, and IBBA3040 have given me the necessary industry exposure and analytical skills to get the internship offer and be successful within the internship.

In the long-term future, I wish to be a social entrepreneur who can help needy students, micro business owners, farmers, and other people around me. This internship has surely helped me to take a step closer towards this dream by understanding the business and economic landscape in my home country.’
