“During the summer of 2019, I participated in an internship programme at Seone established by two experienced Korean accountants few years ago. Comprised of three different divisions, Seone Public Accounting Limited, Seone Tax Limited and Seone Management Outsourcing Limited, Seone provides extensive services from audit and taxation to consulting. As an audit intern, my main role was to assist in auditing both Korean and local companies operating in Hong Kong and to undertake ad hoc assignments requested by tax department as well as company secretary team.
The atmosphere of the office depends on the season, especially issuance of tax returns and different business year ends. When there are a number of deadlines available, the office would be filled with incoming calls, documents and conversations. Since each staff is assigned a client portfolio to take charge of, they usually work independently on their own duties with continuous interaction with other departments if needed.
Among all the valuable experiences, my first audit project, training sessions and audit on site have been the most memorable ones throughout the programme. By auditing seven different companies as my first assignment, I became more acceptable to challenges and eager to learn new things. From training sessions provided by a director and a senior colleague, I could be exposed to legal terms especially Companies Ordinance, broadening my perspective beyond technical skills. Moreover, when visiting the client’s office, I could observe the direct interaction between the director and client, picking up real-life business communication skills.
Despite a lack of diversity and other benefits that large enterprises could provide, working at a growing company has provided me with an opportunity to participate in a broad range of projects and put me into an impactful position so that I can be continuously motivated for self-development. Furthermore, the Global Economics and Finance (GLEF) programme also helped me to well manage the unfamiliar tasks and apply some of financial knowledge from courses such as financial accounting and corporate finance into carrying out daily duties. The internship at Seone has been a great impact not only to my career path but also to myself to become a better communicator and more responsible, self-motivating person.”
