“Internship is one of the key components of GLEF program.

I worked in Commerzbank AG, the second largest bank in Germany, as a Debt Capital Market intern from June to December 2018. Debt Capital Market division is often less-known among university students; yet, it is one of the fastest growing team across investment banks in Hong Kong. 

Through this internship, I have learned to combine the knowledge I have learned from school with the practical experiences in the financial industry.

GLEF is a very small program with roughly 30 students.

“During the first semester in 2018, I joined the Alibaba Internship Programme and interned with the Investment Team at Gobi Partners.
In the five months with Gobi, I was actively involved in the entire investment process, from identifying potential startups, conducting due diligence, to following-up with portfolio companies.
Lastly, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all of my colleagues who supported me wholeheartedly throughout the internship.

“I have joined the Student Co-op Student Trainee Program in HSBC for 6 months.
Being in this team, has offered me with a great opportunity to get to know more about the bank’s internal regulations and standards when they are analyzing a customer profile.
This internship experience has further straightened my communication, data analysis, interpersonal and presentation skills.
HSBC does appreciate work life balance, which it has senior management teams to hold town hall from time to time and spread the message that employees are not encouraged to working overtime and to send work emails after office hours.

“The Learn Earn and Progress (LEAP) program was an eight weeks internship that was designed for penultimate students who were seeking a career in the banking industry.
Over the last two months, I worked as a System Parameter intern under the Operations department.
On the second month of the internship, I was then delegated a project by the Head of Operations regarding the amendments and compilations of operational policies under the operations department.
Throughout the internship period, a total of two in-class trainings and networking sessions were offered by the LEAP program.
One of the aspects that had helped me in securing this internship should be credited to GLEF.
Another factor that had contributed to my internship placement was my exchange experience at the National University of Singapore (NUS).
In short, I think that GLEF had done an excellent job in offering me the classes that were needed in the banking industry.”
