Vivian Liu – Alibaba Group

“In the later half year on 2019, I had my off-cycle internship in Alibaba Group, Cainiao Network in Hangzhou, China, being the Finance Intern in the Corporate Finance and Relations team under the supervision of Mr Daniel Zhu.

The duties and responsibilities included assisted team in data mining, research and analysis in various projects such as the Alibaba Investor Day, Cainiao Post Stations Financial Modelling; conducted company quarter reports, competitor reports and market research and database maintenance; and provided support to handle related documents in Equity Financing and M&A projects.

The tasks were challenging but fun and the internship provided me with opportunities to integrate the knowledge I’ve learnt in university into the workplace and improved my skills from different perspectives.

Moreover, I utilized my knowledge in university such as accounting, corporate finance and financial markets into the workplace and the internship equipped me with deeper understanding of the business operations and deal transactions in the practice.

Lastly, the most essential treasure harvested from this internship was the soft skills such as leadership skills and being a team player while I was working and negotiating with colleague and thus my communication skills also improved.

In conclusion, I am grateful to have a wonderful internship experience in Alibaba Group Cainiao Network during my undergraduate study.

Ingrid Mok – Cathay Pacific

“In July and August 2019, I worked as a summer intern in John Swire & Sons (Swire) Summer Internship Programme.

I was seconded to Cathay Pacific Airways, one of the operating companies.

To ensure that I have support every step on the way, Swire provided me with access to coaches and a management trainee buddy who will offer guidance and development feedback throughout the Programme.

Being a GLEF student, I have attended different courses to attain subject-specific skills that enable me to apply economic principles and models.

Moreover, both Faculties have provided resources for students to gain more exposure to the commercial and cultural world through courses of different themes, talks held by external speakers, while training students in job-hunting through workshops and interview practices.

It was a privilege to utilize my analytical skills and knowledge gained from previous courses in GLEF.

Christie Leung – Bloomberg

“In the 10-week internship, I have rotated between the Analytics and Sales Department.

At Analytics, we were assigned 5 projects to work on beyond conducting campaign calls to our clients.

In Sales, we organized the hosted seminar to our senior sell-side client and we also had the opportunities to represent the company to attend client training and meetings.

Bloomberg has one of the best and most structured internship programme, from the first rotation at Analytics to Sales – I have done several projects and some provide me with opportunities to shine and perform.

Team collaboration is definitely one of the aspects that I have gained and improved the most – as most of the work is done in groups and the company culture would just facilitate all the collaboration and help between everyone.

The HR had organized a lot of events for us, from social and networking events to philanthropy events, we were able to not only understand the Bloomberg culture and value, but also apply through our actions.

Having the Bloomberg Terminal in place in the Finance Lab is already one of the greatest supports from CUHK.

Moreover, being recognized as one of the elite programmes in Hong Kong, this brand recognition has helped me build my credentials and trust both internally and externally at the client place.

The trainings and support from the programme office and the university is also paramount as it built a solid foundation in terms of my technical and understanding about the Terminal.
