“During the summer time in 2018, I joined Nomura International (Hong Kong) Limited as their Summer Intern Analyst in Operations.
Working in a fast-paced investment bank was challenging, but yet it enhanced my on-the-ground understandings in the transaction supporting functions and potential challenges that might face as the middle office of a typical bank.
More importantly, I gained essential soft skills from the internship, which is highly valuable in workplace environment.
Afterall, I would like to express my sincere gratitude towards Nomura for the effort and trust placed in guiding me through the practical operations in an investment bank.
‘I worked at Sun Hung Kai Properties as a Summer Intern in the residential leasing team - Signature Homes from Jun to Aug 2020 and subsequently worked as a Part-time Research Assistant for six months.
During my nine months in the team, I have gained valuable insights into the residential leasing market as well as the real estate industry.
This internship not only developed my practical skillsets in the workplace but also nurtured my communication skills and problem-solving abilities.
It has been an exciting journey in Sun Hung Kai Properties.
“During the fall semester in 2016, I interned at Mercer, Hong Kong, in the Investment Advisory team.
Working in a consulting firm was challenging but concurrently rewarding since it was fortunate for me to participate in different genres of projects in which the learning curve was going steeper and steeper along my journey in Mercer.
Besides, I recognized that soft skills appear to be equally essential in the workplace, for example, teamwork, communication and interpersonal skills, since liaising with clients and collaborating with colleagues are our everyday language at work.
Last but not least, I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to all of my dearest colleagues in the Investment Advisory team as well as in Mercer for their continuous support and guidance throughout the past months.
“In the later half year on 2019, I had my off-cycle internship in Alibaba Group, Cainiao Network in Hangzhou, China, being the Finance Intern in the Corporate Finance and Relations team under the supervision of Mr Daniel Zhu.
The duties and responsibilities included assisted team in data mining, research and analysis in various projects such as the Alibaba Investor Day, Cainiao Post Stations Financial Modelling; conducted company quarter reports, competitor reports and market research and database maintenance; and provided support to handle related documents in Equity Financing and M&A projects.
The tasks were challenging but fun and the internship provided me with opportunities to integrate the knowledge I’ve learnt in university into the workplace and improved my skills from different perspectives.
Moreover, I utilized my knowledge in university such as accounting, corporate finance and financial markets into the workplace and the internship equipped me with deeper understanding of the business operations and deal transactions in the practice.
Lastly, the most essential treasure harvested from this internship was the soft skills such as leadership skills and being a team player while I was working and negotiating with colleague and thus my communication skills also improved.
In conclusion, I am grateful to have a wonderful internship experience in Alibaba Group Cainiao Network during my undergraduate study.
